Sunny Leone’s web series titled Karenjit Kaur – The Untold Story of Sunny Leone is helmed by Aditya Datt. The biopic chronicles the life of Sunny Leone from being the girl-next-door to an adult star and then a Bollywood actor.
The web series has been facing objection from various religious groups as they have objections with Sunny using Kaur in the title of the show.
Speaking to ANI, Manjinder Sirsa, a member of the Akali Dal, said “We have no objection with her profession, it’s her personal life.
Our only objection is simply that we want them to remove the surname ‘Kaur’ because when she herself had earlier dropped ‘Kaur’ from her name then why it is being used now? We have urged the Chairman of Essel Group, Subash Chandra, to immediately remove it or face the consequences.”
Sirsa further warned that if the title of the biopic is not changed, they will be forced to protest about the same.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sikh women leadership have objected to Sunny using Kaur in the title.
SGPC’s additional secretary and spokesperson Diljit Singh Bedi said on Friday, “Kaur is a very respectable name given by Sikh gurus to Sikh women.
A person who didn’t follow the teachings of Sikh Gurus shouldn’t use the word Kaur as this could hurt Sikh religious feelings. Sikhs will not allow her to use it. She should tender a public apology.”
Karenjit Kaur – The Untold Story of Sunny Leone is currently streaming on Zee5.
