SHIAMAK Summer Funk left no stone unturned to rise to the expectations. In its fifteenth show in a row, here at London’s Watford Colosseum, the show was entertaining, engaging and like each year ended with a standing ovation!
India’s most respected choreographer, Shiamak Davar who has been entertaining, educating and empowering people the world over with the power of the performing arts started Summer Funk 24- years-ago in Mumbai, India.
Summer Funk has now become a platform for dance enthusiasts to learn, dance and perform on stage, and millions have experienced this show as participants and audiences in multiple cities globally.
From ages four to eighty, this stage has become a dancers’ dream – to live their passion, to follow their hobby and to foray into the field of dance professionally.
To top it all, some of the biggest Bollywood stars started their journey performing at Summer Funk.
The Show this year was not limited to only the audiences in the theatre. Yes, you read that right! Summer Funk was streamed Live on YouTube with people from the world over watching this dance spectacular.
With 1100 live audience members at the Watford Colosseum, 400 participants and over 5000 live viewers on YouTube, this year’s reach was massive.
With the recurrent theme “Rise of The Champions”, different locations performed to win the coveted title.
This theme was initiated in 2015 in London, UK, and has become a favourite amongst students, pushing them to work hard towards a healthy competition.
After Southall Strikers, Wembley Warriors and Ilford winning in the previous years, this year The Central London Champions stayed true to their name and emerged victoriously.
The Celebrity judges for the competition included Bollywood Actress Raageshwari Loomba and UK’s heartthrob Singer Navin Kundra.
The show opened with an electrifying performance by celebrity RJ and anchor Anushka Arora. Back by popular demand for a second year, Navin also performed his latest single “Ishq Humara” with The SHIAMAK London Dance Team.
Reflecting on this year’s show, Navin said: “In today’s world, you forget about all the worries & get united through dance is the magic of SHIAMAK”. The video of Navin’s performance will be released soon.
Raageshwari thought the winning team was absolutely brilliant and showed her appreciation with a standing ovation.
“Long live Shiamak for the kind of amazing work he is doing all across the planet to keep people Happy. I am what I am today because of all the advice he gave me in my early days,” describes the singer/actress.
Another dignitary who graced the occasion was the leader of Brent Council – Councilor Muhammed Butt who was there to witness the talent from Brent as they head towards the celebration of Brent2020 the cultural celebration of Brent Borough.
Reflecting on attending the show, Councillor Muhammed Butt (Leader of Brent Council) said: “The Entertainment packed evening celebrated the contribution our diverse community make to places like brent.
I am very proud of each performer & we look forward to their participation towards our celebration of Brent borough of Culture 2020 by the Mayor of London”
Other winners consist of Best Male & Best Female Dancer – Sharaz Younus & Pallavi Sheth, Advance at the ‘SONY Audience Choice Award’, through public voting. Judges Choice of the
Best Performance for the Night was awarded to Central London Advance.
