Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, whose film Dhadak promotes love overcoming discriminations, have extended their support towards the LGBT Community.
When both actors were asked about equality for the gay community by a leading Indian newspaper, the actors made their opinion known on how everyone has the right to love, irrespective of their sexuality.
“I think everyone should have the freedom to love because love is such a pure and sacred emotion, I believe that everyone does what they do in search of love. So I don’t see why their love should be compartmentalised, generalised or made into something bitter,” said Janhvi.
She added, “Everyone deserves the freedom to love who they want to love.”
Ishaan mentioned: “I feel that any kind of a discrimination, be it on the basis of caste or class and sexuality is a form of hate and the film ‘Dhadak’, that we are so deeply involved in is, in a larger sense has an over-line message talking about the power of love over hatred and we all believe in that.
It is high time that we go out there and talk about this openly and discourage people who propagate hatred.”
Janhvi also explained, “And also eradicate the stigma that’s attached with homosexuality. I think there’s a lot of people are still scared to support homosexuality. I mean, the community just needs love and acceptance.”
The LGBT community has been impatiently waiting for the Supreme Court’s verdict on Section 377.
It is wonderful to see stars like Janhvi and Ishaan show their support towards equality within our society!
