Veteran Bollywood actor Asrani, in a shocking statement, has claimed that the #MeToo movement is merely a publicity stunt.
In an interview with ANI, the actor said:
“I support women, everyone should, but all this is mostly for publicity, part of film promotions and nothing else. Mere accusations mean nothing, don’t take this seriously.”
With so many views being vocalised against the perpetrators who have been named by women from the industry, this comment by Asrani is definitely going to cause a stir.
Undoubtedly, it seems like India has finally reached a point where women are now openly coming out with complaints of Sexual harassment at their workplaces.
Recent days have seen a large number of women who came out with complaints of sexual molestation against Bollywood’s big stars.
Some of the actors that have been accused include Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl, Kailash Kher, Nana Patekar, Rajat Kapoor and more.
After all this, the women who have come out have received immense support from Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Sonam K Ahuja, Farhan Akhtar and more.
The whole movement began after Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment back in 2008 on the sets of Horn Ok Please.
Post that Vinta Nanda complaint about Alok Nath and accused him of rape and sexual misconduct. Even actress Sandhya Mridul accused Alok Nath of the same.
Since the movement has gained momentum, more names are also expected to come out.
