Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who got married this year in May, are expecting their first child.
The Kensington Palace on Monday morning released a statement which read:
“Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.”
In the statement, they also thanked the public for their unconditional support.
The statement read, “appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public”.
The couple announced this news as soon as they arrived hand-in-hand to kick-start their 16-day royal tour around Australia.
The Queen and other senior royals were also informed about the pregnancy last week on Friday when members of the Royal Family gathered in Windsor for Princess Eugenie’s wedding.
Markle attended the wedding with Harry donning a long, dark blue coat, which led to speculations that she could be expecting.
After she was seen trying to hide her stomach while arriving for the 16-day tour to Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.
BBC quoted their reporter informing: “It was there that the duke and duchess chose to inform the most senior members of the royal family.
The Queen was told, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall – they chose that day to spread the happy news around and then recover and relax, get on a plane and then put out the news for the rest of us.”
This is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first official tour as the royals.
Here’s wishing them the heartiest congratulations on this wonderful news!
