Deepika Padukone is set to play acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in Meghna Gulzar’s next project.
Expressing her joy in Deepika playing the role, Laxmi tells the media:
“I am so happy that Deepika is playing the role. I have no right to judge her. How can I judge someone for something which I can’t do.
She has played wonderful characters on screen and I believe she will give her best. I want to thank Deepika ji, Meghna ji and the entire team who will be working together on the film.”
Acid- attack survivor Laxmi is happy that with this biopic, Meghna Gulzar will help in spreading awareness about acid attacks and allow victims to come and talk about it.
“I had signed the movie in 2016 and the official announcement has been made now,” says Laxmi.
Although the film is being made on the life of Laxmi, one wonders whether she would want to act in the film. But not acting, Laxmi, if given a chance, would want to sing.
“Yes. I will love to sing for my biopic if given a chance,” says Laxmi.
Besides playing the role of Laxmi in the biopic Deepika is joining the list of actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma and will also become the hat of a producer with Meghna Gulzar’s untitled film.
As for Laxmi’s story, she was 15 when a 32-year-old man attacked her with acid.
As he was in an unrequited love with her, to avenge his love, he threw acid on her.
Post the incident, Laxmi has been talking about acid attacks and garnering support for a petition to curb the sale of acids in the country.
On the work front, Deepika Padukone was seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat opposite Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
