Filmmaker Karan Johar, in a media interview, has said that he will venture into the digital space during 2019.
“We’re planning to (go digital) next year. It’s going to be a solid digital company—we want to be content providers and creators.
We have everything in place already and we’re good to go in a few months.”
As per reports, Dharma productions will soon produce both episodes based and feature films for OTT streaming platforms like Prime and Netflix.
It is reported that the budgets will be similar to that of mainstream movies.
Apart from these, there will be many other digital forays as well such as short videos and interviews.
In the same interview, Karan revealed how he deals with movies which he knows that can fail on box office.
“Of course you go ahead with the release, you can’t leave the film in the cans, you’ve got investments and you need to recover them.
I can’t afford to not release a film, I haven’t reached that stage yet. And I feel digital cannot be a dumping yard.
If you’ve chosen to make a film that is not going to work, release it, take the backlash, move on,” he added.
The year 2018 has been quite fruitful for KJo given that his two productions Raazi and Dhadak were received tremendously well.
Moreover, he even announced his next multi-starrer directorial, Takht.
