Surbhi Chandna Wins Big at AVTA 2018

Surbhi Chandna, who played Annika in Star Plus’ show Ishqbaaaz was bestowed at Asian Viewers Television Awards (AVTA) 2018.

Winning the award for Best Female Actor of The Year yet again (after last year), a humbled Surbhi shared her views with Filme Shilmy:

“Ah, it just feels amazing and it’s made my year. This is international recognition for me.

I get nationally recognised when I won a lot of awards this year, but today I felt recognised across the globe. I’ve won two times in a row, it’s a great feeling.”

AVTA returned for the fifth year and took place on Saturday 15th December 2018.

Founded by Rajan Singh, the awards commemorate the best of Asian television in the UK.

Speaking about this year’s ceremony, Rajan conveyed:

“These awards have been held annually to highlight the contribution the Asian TV industry plays in our daily life and how as an industry we have developed. 

There have been many challenges in 2018 along with how channels and platforms are changing around us.

I hope 2019 will be a better year for revenues.”

He added:

“I would like to thank our sponsors who have committed to supporting these awards over the last 5 years and look forward to their support for the next 5 years.”

Other Celebrity Attendees

From general entertainment, news and reality shows, the AVTA’s welcomed a whole line-up of TV stars and celebrity guests to London’s Hilton Hotel.

British-Asian rapper Raxtar, Music Producer Naughty Boy, Navin Kundra and his partner – The Apprentice’s Jasmine Kundra, Hollyoaks actor Rukku Nahar were also attendees.

Hosting the evening for another year was the handsome Indian actor, Karan Tacker.

Tacker himself is a popular star of TV himself kept the audience engaged with his humorous and energetic presenting.

Karan reflects on taking centre stage as the presenter for the fifth time:

“This is my fifth time around and it’s always great to be a part of an event since the inception.

AVTA is one of the most prestigious functions here as far as Asian television awards are concerned.

It’s been a whole lot of fun.”

Overall, the fifth annual Asian Viewers Television Awards was yet another night packed with splendour, glamour and entertainment.

As it is the sole British awards ceremony which really celebrates Asian television, we are certain that the forthcoming years will be just as prestigious.
