Bollywood actress Tanishaa Mukerji of Neal ‘n’ Nikki fame was recently subjected to racism in the United States.
The actress went to New York in order to attend the CRY America charity gala.
Tanishaa alleged that she faced racism at The Jane Hotel in New York where she was staying.
While talking to an American daily, the actress said that one of the employees of the hotel passed on insensitive remarks at her while she was partying with her friends at the club inside the hotel premises.
The actress went on to say that the employee was very rude and passed of remarks which were downright abusive.
In Tanishaa’s own words, the employee said that they looked as if they were ‘fresh off the boat’ and ‘couldn’t speak English’.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Tanishaa said:
“I don’t understand what triggered it as I was polite, but he turned rude.
One of the employees, an African-American, said that we looked as if we were fresh off the boat and couldn’t speak English.
That was insulting and blatantly racist.
My friends and I were shocked. It’s traumatic to experience this kind of racism in the US; I have never faced it earlier”
The former Bigg Boss runner-up even tried to punish the man for such behaviour and wanted to hand him to the cops.
She told her hotel staff about the incident but they were of no help. “I told them to call the cops, but they refused to do so
Later, she tweeted a post on her Twitter account later on which she shared a video when she faced the racist comments by the particular employee.
This is not the first time that any Bollywood celebrity has been subjected to racial discrimination.
One of the most infamous cases is that of Shilpa Shetty Kundra who faced bigotry in the British edition of Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.
Tanishaa is the younger sister of ace Indian actress, Kajol.
