Director Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that a sequel to her hit film Gully Boy is currently being scripted.
According to a media report, the film is currently in the scripting stage.
Zoya said:
“My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there’s so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country. And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned.”
Gully Boy is inspired by the lives of rappers Divine and Naezy and is set in Mumbai’s rap music scene.
Ranveer Singh plays Murad, a young man with aspirations of becoming a successful rapper.
Alia Bhatt co-stars as his feisty girlfriend, Safeena.
Zoya also spoke about why her brother and co-producer of the film, Farhan Akhtar didn’t have a role in it.
“His image from the Rock On series is affiliated to an entirely different genre of music,” she said.
“It would have been a bit of a culture shock for the audience to suddenly see him swerve from stadium-rock to hip-hop.”
The film has made close to Rs 250 crore worldwide, and is Ranveer’s second hit back-to-back hit, following Simmba.
Last year he appeared in the blockbuster Padmaavat which starred Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.
The movie has received unanimous praise not just from Indian audiences, but also from Hollywood celebrities.
