Actors Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan will star in director David Dhawan’s remake of 90s comedy, Coolie No 1.
A leading Indian newspaper quotes writer Farhad Samji as saying:
“It is a boon for any writer to work with a dedicated actor like Varun.
I narrated the dialogue draft to him recently and he immediately asked me for a copy, so he could rehearse his lines even though there is still time for the film to go on the floors.
I am looking forward to teaming up with Sara for the second time.”
Samji said that the new Coolie No 1 film isn’t a sequel, per se, but ‘an adaptation in a new format’ which will have ‘plenty of humour and colour, larger-than-life songs”’
As for Sara, she is coming off two back-to-back hits.
She made her Bollywood debut with Kedarnath, which starred Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role and then appeared opposite Ranveer Singh in blockbuster movie Simmba.
Khan is currently filming director Imtiaz Ali’s follow-up to his Love Aaj Kal, with actor Kartik Aaryan.
With regards to Varun, this remake will mark his third collaboration with father David Dhawan after doing Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2.
Varun will next be seen in the lavish period drama Kalank, with Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt.
He is also shooting for Street Dancer 3D, with actor Shraddha Kapoor, directed by Remo D’Souza.
Coolie No 1 is a 1995 film directed by David Dhawan, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead.
