Bollywood Film producer, Firoz A. Nadiadwala has been found guilty of not paying tax on time.
He has been sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for one year delay in depositing Rs 8.56 lakh.
The case is of the financial year 2009-10. Nadiadwala has produced films like Welcome, Welcome back, Awara Paagal Deewana, Aarakshan and many more.
According to reports, the Ballard Pier Magistrate Court said that subsequent payments do not diminish the criminal liability.
The reports further highlight that Nadiadwala said that due to financial constraints and low business during 2009-10, the tax payment was delayed.
He did not create any construction for the next 3 years and was earning his living by the sale of old films. This led to a delay in depositing the tax.
The court dismissed the claims and sentenced imprisonment.
The complaint against Nadiadwala was registered by an income tax officer (TDS) in March 2014.
It is alleged that they are not giving the exact reason for not filing tax within the stipulated period.
