Veeru Devgan, one of Bollywood’s well-known action director and father of actor Ajay Devgn, passed away today in Mumbai.
He worked on several movies like Vishwatma, Kranti, Shahensha and Phool Aur Kante, as an action choreographer.
Mr Devgan was suffering from a prolonged illness (‘age-related’ issues, according to a source) and took his last breath in Mumbai. He was aged 85.
He was admitted to Surya Hospital in Santa Cruz and suffered a cardiac arrest in the morning.
The veteran worked on over 100 Bollywood movies as an action director.
He also directed Hindustan Ki Kasam in 1999, which featured Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan.
The funeral will be held in Mumbai at the Vile Parle West Crematorium on Monday evening.
“Sad to know that veteran action director Veeru Devganji is no more.
He was a genius in choreographing fights on the big screen when there were no facilities available.
My heartfelt condolences to Ajay Devgn and the entire family,” filmmaker Ashoke Pandit tweeted.
“RIP Veeru Devganji. A legend of Hindi cinema. Left his mark at a time when ‘pure action’ without VFX was the order of the day.
Heartfelt condolences to Ajay Devgn and Kajol. May his soul rest in peace. Prayers are with the family,” Kunal Kohli wrote.
Bollywood actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol and others reached at Ajay Devgn’s residence to pay their last respect.
May Veeruji’s soul rest in peace.
