Fox Star Studios have confirmed that Bollywood adaptation of The Fault In Our Stars – Dil Bechara will release in cinemas next year.
A leading Indian daily references a source who says:
“Earlier this year, another film of Fox called Lootcase starring Kunal Kemmu had also been allocated a web release, but the big boss intervened and asked for a theatrical release.
Similarly, they didn’t want this prestigious film, to come out on a digital platform.”
Saif Ali Khan also has a cameo in the film, where he plays the role that Willem Dafoe did in the original.
The role will reportedly be an Indian version of an author called Peter Van Houten, as described by the source:
“The character is of a rasping alcoholic who is also Sanjana’s favourite author. But when the lead pair meets him, she is shaken by his behaviour.
It is an edgy role, and Saif accepted it because of the deal he has with the Studio.”
Dil Bechara had the working title Kizie aur Manny. It was stalled after #MeToo allegations emerged on director Mukesh Chhabra.
Following an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) giving him a clean chit, the film came back on track.
Penned by Suprotim Sengupta, the film’s music is composed by AR Rahman.
The film is expected to release on May 8, 2020.
