The 6th annual AVTA (Asian Viewers Achievement Television Awards) took place the Hilton Terminal 5 Hotel in London.
Headed by founder and media veteran Rajan Singh of Digi Media Global, the AVTA team put together another fantastic event.
Like every year, the 2019 awards celebrated the best of Asian television and talent, covering areas of broadcasting and entertainment.
Sharing a few words on this year’s event, Rajan says:
“On behalf of the AVTA team, I am delighted to welcome you at the 6th year of the awards.
These awards have been held annually to highlight the contribution of the Asian TV industry plays in our daily life and how as an industry we have developed.
There have been many challenges in 2019 along with how channels and platforms are changing around us. I hope 2020 will be a better year all round!”
This year was truly special as AVTA signed an exclusive stream deal with YuppTV, where viewers could exclusively watch the live broadcasting of the event.
In attendance were several notable faces of Indian television. These include actors Nakuul Mehta, Erica Fernandes (of Kasautii Zindagii Kay), Harshad Chopda (Bepannaah), Kunal Jaisingh and wife Bharati Kumar.
Other high profile guests from the world of television and media, along with prominent British Asians also grace the event.
Some names even consist of England cricketer Monty Panesar, Great British Bake Off contestant Priya O’Shea and actor/presenter Ameet Chana, amongst others.
Before the main awards segment commenced, there were brief stage/panel discussions on the future of Asian television and linear television.
Furthermore, the AVTA team also held a fun heads/tales game to acquire money for HM Partnership, to which supports people with mental health issues and raise more awareness of mental health.
When the awards began, it was once again fabulously presented by heartthrob and actor Karan Tacker, who entertained viewers with his hilarious one-liners and interactions with guests like Erica and Harshad.
In terms of the big winners, Harshad and Erica (for the second time) won awards in the ‘Male Actor of the Year’ and ‘Female Actor of the Year’ categories, respectively.
Reflecting on this achievement, Erica expresses:
“The last time I won this award was for my previous show (Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi) and I couldn’t be here, unfortunately.
But this time, I’m here and I feel glad about this really nice welcome. This is my first time here in England and I would like to thank the entire team of Kasautii.
It wouldn’t have been possible without them. Thanks to everyone for making Prerna and for believing in me.”
For Harshad, it was quite an emotional time as the day of triumph coincided with his mother’s birthday, who has passed away.
The Bepannaah actor describes his sentiments:
“I’d like to dedicate this award to everyone who voted. The show has been off-air for a year almost, but the character has still been kept alive by the audience and fans who voted for the character.
Thank you so much. Today’s my mum’s birthday… She’s no longer with us, but happy birthday to her. Thank you all for making this day so special for me.”
Overall, the sixth annual Asian Viewers Television Awards was yet another night packed with splendour, glamour and entertainment.
As it is the sole British awards ceremony which really celebrates Asian television, we are certain that the forthcoming years will be just as prestigious.
Filme Shilmy congratulates all the winners and Rajan Singh for yet another spectacular evening!
