Kajol has shared the first look of her short-film Devi, which boasts of a powerful ensemble cast including Shruti Hassan, Neha Dhupia and Neena Gupta amongst several others.
The film is being directed by Priyanka Banerjee and produced by Niranjan Iyengar and Ryan Stephen’s Electric Apples Entertainment.
Speaking about her debut in short film genre, Kajol tells the media:
“I couldn’t have chosen a better subject for my first short film. My character, Jyoti, is vastly different from me, but uncannily, we share a lot of similarities.
In today’s times when gender discrimination, abuse and violence is being spoken about vociferously, films like Devi are far more relevant.”
Shruti further comments: “We talk about sisterhood and how women need to stand with each other. Devi highlights that aspect with a powerful message.”
Shot in 2 days, Devi is Kajol and Shruti’s first short film ever.Â
It is the story of nine oppressed women, from different strata of society, living a small room, faced with the dilemma of sharing their space and stories in a country all too used to tragedy and pain.
The other actors also consist of Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashaswini Dayama.
Meanwhile, Kajol’s Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in six days of its release.
The movie has been declared tax free in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Directed by Om Raut, the film is set in the 17th century and is based on the life of Tanaji, the military leader of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army.
In an exclusive interview with Filme Shilmy, the Helicopter Eela actor talks about the style of roles to explore in the future:
“I definitely want to do things I’ve not done before. I don’t want to do run-of-the-mill things, I want to something that will definitely surprise you and that is unexpected.
So I do not wish to choose projects which are expected of me.”
As well as Tanhaji and Devi, Kajol will also be seen in Siddharth P Malhotra’s Netflix film Tribhanga, which also stars Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar, directed by Renuka Shahane.
It certainly seems like 2020 and this decade could be a game-changing one for Kajol!
