Vijay Varma and His Friendship Frenzy in ZEE5’s Yaara

This Friendship Day, the much-anticipated original film, Yaara is set to release on the largest OTT platform for Indian content, ZEE5 Global on 30th July.

Going by the trailer, it seems to be a promising drama with a gripping storyline that revolves around the life of four friends.

The Tigmanshu Dhulia’s direction set in Uttar Pradesh is an adaptation of a French film, ‘A Gang Story’.

The movie stars Vidyut Jammwal, Amit Sadh, Vijay Varma, Kenny Basumatary who are infamous criminals who share a strong bond of friendship.

It is a story of friendship that we all experience in our lives.

The narrative will relate to one of the 4 characters in Yaara because the Chokdi gang (set in the 90s) will take you through a journey that we all can relate to.

As per the initial glimpse, it hints at the friends’ coming-of-age and the crimes that they commit.

Subsequently, at things go awry and Phagun and Mitwa parting ways, only to meet again after 20 years when Mitwa gets arrested.

Despite the fallout, Phagun tries to free Mitwa for old time’s sake. Will this rekindle their lost friendship, or will it lead to bloodshed?

We managed to catch up with actor Vijay Varma. Earlier, his film Bamfaad also premiered on ZEE5, so how is feeling about this one also getting a premiere on the same platform?

“I feel great,” He says. “I feel like returning to the familiar ground all over again in such a short span of time.

I’ve been waiting for the film to come out and the audience to watch it. It’s such an amazing time for movies as people are relishing it at home

It is very exciting and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

He further mentions: “It almost took us a whole year to shoot the film but we all had a great time.

We had to show two different decades so the cast had to go through physical transformation.

On the sets we used to have a lot of fun, all four of us enjoyed each day.”

Varma, whose career stemmed from theatre, has done several screen roles which are dark, edgy and have some criminal connection.

So, is this something he consciously looks out for? He tells us:

“The style of roles just keep running after me! I have no idea why. Everybody wants to imagine me in roles such as these.

However, there are going to be a turn of events later on in this year – which will probably surprise the audience… Because clearly, they haven’t imagined to see me in the style of characters I’ll be playing.”

In addition to Vijay, Vidyut and Kenny, the movie also witnesses stellar performances from Shruti Hassan and Sanjay Mishra who play focal roles in the film.

Produced by Azure Entertainment, Yaara premieres on ZEE5 Global on 30th June.
