Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl Trailer Addresses Passion, Patriotism & Patriarchy

Netflix today released the trailer of its much-awaited original film, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, which is set to release on the service on August 12, 2020.

Inspired by true events, the film takes you on Gunjan Saxena’s journey through family, dreams and determination, as she became India’s first female Air Force officer to fly in a combat zone during the 1999 Kargil War.

Capturing the essence of her life, the biographical case is an ode to her dedication towards achieving her dreams.

The trailer perfectly encapsulates the journey of Saxena (played by Janhvi Kapoor), who stood up against all odds and emerged victorious with her unparalleled courage and sheer determination. 

It showcases the story of all the obstacles that she had to face through the course of her journey – be it going against the will of her brother (played by Angad Bedi) serving in the army or facing discrimination from her peers, to the challenges of the battlefield.

The trailer also has glimpses of Pankaj Tripathi, who stars as Gunjan Saxena’s supportive father, and Vineet Singh, an officer, who unknowingly brings out the best in Gunjan Saxena by challenging her on many levels.

Produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, the movie is directed by Sharan Sharma and also stars Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza.

The movie will premiere exclusively on Netflix on 12th August 2020.

The true story of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, India’s first woman Air Force Officer in a combat zone, and fought every obstacle that came her way to make her dreams come true.
