The trailer of Renuka Shahane’s directorial Tribhanga has released and it promises a gripping story about three women, who are not “perfect” but they live their lives on their own terms.
Tanvi Azmi stars as Kajol and Mithila Palkar’s mother in this Netflix film which explores dysfunctional family dynamics.
The trailer shows Nayan (Tanvi Azmi), a critically acclaimed Marathi litterateur, admitted to a hospital after she slips into a coma and Bollywood actor Anu (Kajol) revisiting her sour memories of her mother, with whom she shares an estranged relationship.
There are also hints of storylines revolving around abuse and ‘safety’ in one’s homes, for which Anu accuses her mother of not protecting her from.
Sharing the trailer of the film, Kajol summed up the story with these words: “Nobody is perfect.”
Tribhanga, which is the name of an Odissi dance pose, marks Kajol’s digital debut. Talking about her character in the film, the actress said in a statement:
“We need to embrace these imperfections and live on our own terms, just the way Nayan, Anu, and Masha do in this film.
My character is outspoken and opinionated much like how the audience knows me, yet is completely different.
As a mother, I can vouch that there are challenges that women face daily as the smallest of things we do affect our children.
Motherhood is a minefield of emotions captured extremely well by Renuka. I am very excited for the audience to see this film and hope it will resonate with people of all ages.”
Kajol kick-started the decade with content ranging from different mediums, be that a cinematic blockbuster like Tanhaji, a social short-film like Devi to a Netflix original film such as Tribhanga.
The actor has exclusively shared with Filme Shilmy what has prompted this interest in exploring new styles of cinema:
“I think the interest was always there, but the opportunity (as far as scripts are concerned) they had to be likeable.
It’s not sufficient to just get a huge quantity of them and one has to like it. That’s the big part of doing content and working.
I don’t purposely time doing multiple projects at the start of every decade (laughs), it just happened that way, honestly.
Maybe the start of the decade is lucky for me.”
Tribhanga also stars Kunaal Roy Kapur and Kawaljeet Singh and is co-produced by Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn, Siddharth P Malhotra, Sapna Malhotra, Deepak Dhar, Rishi Negi and Parag Desai.
