10 Highly-Awaited Bollywood Films & Their Cinematic Release Dates in 2021

Bollywood 2021 has begun with a string of OTT releases, with movies like Tribhanga and The Girl On The Train on Netflix.

As such, the theatrical business has been severely impacted by the pandemic wherein a giant cinema chain like Cineworld had temporarily shut down.

Earlier, Filme Shilmy had reported the confirmed release dates for Yash Raj Films and now, we have some more good news.

Since cinemas have opened up as normal adhering to social distancing guidelines in India, it seems a few highly-awaited Hindi films will now see the light of day in cinemas.

Satyameva Jayate 2 – Dir: Milap Zaveri, Release Date: 12th May

The first Satyameva Jayate released back in 2018, brought John Abraham back in a big way into the mainstream with a masala action entertainer after years, which the audience thronged cinema halls to watch.

Satyameva Jayate 2 is touted to be completely a very ‘commercial film. Which aims to channelise many issues of today — issues that our country is facing.

The sequel will reportedly continue from its original Mumbai setting and will see Abraham fighting corruption in Lucknow.

It is produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Emmay Entertainment and Milap Zaveri will be helming the film.

Radhe – Dir: Prabhu Deva, Release Date: 13th May

Radhe, which stars an ensemble cast headlined by actors like Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff, will also mark the return of the actor-director duo of Salman Khan and Prabhudeva.

While the actioner also stars South Indian actress Megha Akash in a crucial role, it has also been reported that Radhe’s action sequences are being choreographed by South Korea’s biggest martial arts’ star and stuntman, Kwon Tae Ho.

Sources had claimed that Salman was offered an unheard-of amount for the film by one of the leading digital platforms, however, it will now release theatrically.

The film is co-produced by Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Atul Agnihotri under the banners Salman Khan Films, Sohail Khan Productions, and Reel Life Production.

Bell Bottom – Dir: Ranjit M Tewari, Release Date: 28th May

Akshay Kumar’s film had become the first one to complete the filming of Bellbottom amid the pandemic in 2020. It is written by Aseem Arrora & Parveez Shaikh.

While the entire schedule was shot in Scotland, the cast and crew followed utmost safety guidelines in order to finish off the shooting within the schedule.

Pooja Entertainment presents in association with Emmay Entertainment Bellbottom Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and Nikkhil Advani.

The film is the story of one of India’s forgotten heroes. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta, and Huma Qureshi.

83 – Dir: Kabir Khan, Release Date: 4th June

Kabir Khan’s 83 sports drama is set to evoke the nostalgia of the 1983 world cup triumph for all the cricket fans out there, it revolves around the life of the winning captain Kapil Dev and the Indian cricket team.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will be essaying the roles of Kapil Dev and his wife Romi “Bhatia” Dev. Other key members of the team are played by Tahir Raj Bhasin (Sunil Gavaskar), Harrdy Sandhu (Madan Lal), Saqib Saleem (Mohinder Amarnath), Jiiva (Krishnamachari Srikanth), Ammy Virk (Balwinder Sandhu), Sahil Khattar (Syed Kirmani) and Chirag Patil (Sandeep Patil).

The cricket team cast of 83 was also trained by former cricket players to cover all the natural aspects from that momentous tournament.

Interestingly, it also marks the second production of Deepika. It was earlier set to release in April 2020 but postponed due to Coronavirus.

Jhund – Dir: Nagraj Manjule, Release Date: 18th June

Amitabh Bachchan will be seen essaying the role of a football coach, Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO Soccer Slum in the film and it will also mark the Hindi directorial debut of Nagraj Manjule who is known for the hit Marathi film Sairat.

The film was announced back in 2017 but has faced quite a few roadblocks on the way. Initially, it was supposed to be completed and released in theatres on 20 September 2019.

However, the makers got embroiled in a copyright dispute, subject to which a civil court in Telangana ordered a stay on the film.

The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Raaj Hiremath, Savita Raj Hiremath, Nagraj Manjule, Gargee Kulkarni, Sandip Ssingh and Meenu Aroraa under the banner of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment & Aatpat.

KGF: Chapter 2 – Dir: Prashanth Neel, Release Date: July 16

The blood-soaked land of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) Has a new overlord now. Rocky (Yash), whose name strikes fear in the heart of his foes.

His allies look up to Rocky as their Savior, the government sees him as a threat to law and order; enemies are clamouring for revenge and conspiring for his downfall.

Bloodier battles and darker days await as Rocky continues on his quest for unchallenged supremacy.

KGF: Chapter 2 also stars Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon. 

Atrangi Re – Dir: Aanand L Rai, Release Date: 6th August

Atrangi Re starring Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush, went on floors in Varanasi.

Reportedly, the movie is a cross-cultural love story that will see Sara romancing both Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. Sara plays a girl from Bihar.

The movie will be presented by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Colours Yellow Production along with Akshay Kumar’s Cape Of Good Films.

Written by Himanshu Sharma, the music will be backed by the legendary composer, AR Rahman.

Maidaan – Dir: Amit Sharma, Release Date: 15th October

Inspired by the incredible true story of Syed Abdul Rahim, Maidaan will showcase the journey of one of the finest coaches that emerged from India, the one who put India on the global map.

Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of Badhaai Ho fame, Maidaan also stars National award-winning actress Priyamani, Gajraj Rao who created magic with Badhaai Ho and the well-known Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh.

The Ajay Devgn starrer by a film that celebrates the biggest sport in the world – Football, recently got a new release date.

The Zee Studios’ production, which is a story of change and self-belief, will release this Dussehra on 15th October 2021. 

Jersey – Dir: Gowtam Tinnanuri, Release Date: 5th November

Despite the shoot being interrupted due to the Coronavirus outbreak by Team Jersey, thankfully they managed to wrap up amidst the pandemic.

A remake of the 2019 Telugu blockbuster of the same name, it is about a talented but failed cricketer, decides to return to cricket in his late thirties, driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son’s wish for a jersey as a gift.

Gowtam Tinnanauri, who helmed the 2019 original starring Nani, has also directed the Hindi version and stars Shahid Kapoor in the main lead.

The film also stars veteran actor Pankaj Kapur and Mrunal Thakur is being presented by Allu Aravind, produced by Aman Gill, Dil Raju and S Naga Vamsi.

Laal Singh Chaddha – Dir: Advait Chandan, Release Date: 24th December

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Aamir Khan in a successful Bollywood film and we have missed his mark of perfection as an actor.

But thankfully, that wait will soon end with Laal Singh Chadha, directed by Advait Chandan is the remake of Hollywood classic, Forest Gump.

Khan plays the role of a Sardar, events in India’s history unfold through the perspective of Laal Singh Chaddha, a man with low intellect.

The highly-anticipated film also marks the reunion of Kareena Kapoor Khan with Aamir on the big screen, it is scheduled for a Christmas 2021 release.

Well, at least cinemas are back into action and hopefully, these titles can finally see the light of day!
