5 Strong Female Characters That Grabbed Our Attention On OTT Platforms

This Women’s Day let’s celebrate female characters that made us want to watch some of the most celebrated desi web series from 2020.

OTT has given a platform for various content driven shows to voice empowering female narratives.

Today, there are many such series that have paved a path where women characters are allowed to be just as multifaceted as their male counterparts.

We witness ample female characters that are complicated, diverse yet strong in a myriad of ways. Here’s a list of the top 5 characters who grabbed our attention!

Jugnu Chaudhary – Churails (Zindagi original show on ZEE5)

Once a renowned wedding/event planner, Jugnu’s career (played by Yasra Rizvi) is in slow decline due to new competition.

She grapples with alcohol addiction, money troubles, her father’s imprisonment and a failed marriage with an African American man.

As she embarks on her journey as a Churail, Jugnu is forced to slip off her jovial, devil-may-care mask and confront her growing pains.

She is fashionable, quirky, witty and vulnerable. Churails’ Jugnu Chaudhary is a fierce example for women today and is undoubtedly a delight to watch onscreen.

Aarya Sareen – Aarya (Disney+ Hotstar)

Amidst a world of men, a woman trying to save her family isn’t expected to succeed.

However, Aarya (played by Sushmita Sen), a single mother puts her moral beliefs aside and enters the dirty world of drug dealing, just for the sake of her family.

Her ferocity and strength for her kids makes her endearing and intimidating at the same time.

While she gets blood on her hands or beats men around her in a game where all odds are against her, Arya’s dark and complex character leaves behind plenty to ponder on.

Damini Rizvi Roy – Four More Shots Please (Amazon Prime)

A progressive and insanely ambitious Damini (played by Sayani Gupta) is confident to share opinions. Her work is her passion and her utmost priority in life.

Damini’s perfectionist attitude and her need for things to be her way shatters the societal norms in a subtle yet impactful way.

She has her vulnerable moments but refuses to succumb to the obstacles that come her way; she rather chooses to face the challenges head-on.

Damini is a true idol for women of today’s era.

Beena Tripathi – Mirzapur (Amazon Prime)

The master manipulator, Beena Tripathi (played by Rasika Dugal) does not hesitate to express her sexual desires.

She knows what she wants and does not shy away to go to any extent to achieve it, be it even by breaking the unity of Tripathi men.

Even though the parentage of her son remains unclear she uses her pregnancy to fulfil her intentions.

A sly woman of power and priorities, Beena Tripathi knows exactly what she wants and she refuses to stop.

Radha Nautiyal – Flesh (Eros Now)

She is unabashed, unapologetic and extremely strong-headed. ACP Radha Nautiyal (played by Swara Bhaskar) is in charge of anti-human trafficking in Mumbai police.

Angered by injustice, Radha is a thick-skinned woman who also has a sense of brittleness due to the trauma she has survived.

From beating up bad guys to voicing out for the right, Flesh’s Radha Nautiyal is every woman’s alter ego.

Here’s wishing all our readers a Happy International Women’s Day!
