Adarsh Gourav, the breakout actor from The White Tiger (also starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Rajkummar Rao), left a lasting impression with his performance.
Now, it is a moment of great joy to see his name nominated for ‘Leading Actor’ at this year’s BAFTA Awards.
Sharing a few words on this global recognition he managed to achieve through the film, Gourav exclusively shares with Filme Shilmy:
“I feel very excited to be a part of such prestigious awards. I feel very fortunate and lucky to have worked with this bunch of people who made such an amazing film and has left a big impact on audiences.
Especially those who have reached out to me and spoken to me about specific scenes and how it’s made them feel something on a very deep level.
What’s important, is when you make any type of cinema, as a participant in that, all you really desire is to really engage people with whatever you’re doing. It’s a very fulfilling process.”
Taking to Instagram to share his happiness over the announcement, Gourav writes: “Holy shit it’s really happening!

The 26-year-old actor is nominated alongside Riz Ahmed (Sound Of Metal), late Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Mads Mikkelsen, (Another Round) and Tahar Rahim (The Mauritanian).
The White Tiger, which is a screen adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s 2008 novel of the same name, earned a total of two nominations at the 2021 BAFTAs – The other being for ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’.
Adarsh is a man of many talents. He is an actor; singer and songwriter who was born in the steel city of Jamshedpur and spent his formative years in Mumbai.
In the film, he portrays Balram Halwai, a poor driver who uses his street-smarts and cunning to escape the vicious cycle of poverty.
He graduated from Narsee Monjee with a Bachelor’s degree and is also an alumnus of The Drama School in Mumbai. Classically trained in Hindustani Music for more than 9 years.
Gourav has been acting since he was in his teens and over a decade long acting career so far; has been part of more than 50 TV and Digital Ad campaigns.
His first role was in the Karan Johar directed; My Name is Khan starring Shahrukh Khan and has subsequently acted in Anurag Kashyap’s Madly; starred in critically acclaimed Rukh alongside Manoj Bajpayee and played an impactful role in Sridevi’s Mom.
After working on other international projects like Netflix’s Leila, The White Tiger marks Adarsh’s breakthrough performance, for which Priyanka is also an Executive Producer and directed by Ramin Bahrani.
Even being nominated for a BAFTA in such a lead category is no less than an achievement. Heartiest congratulations Adarsh!
