Following an influx and demand of OTT platforms, filmmaker Abhishek has recently launched his latest venture- Oહાે Gujarati (OHO Gujarati), which is Gujarat’s first premium content streaming platform.
It caters to the Gujarati audience globally, with new original content every 10 days, offering 50 pieces of new, premium and hand-picked content.
The platform provides content which is fiction, non-fiction, literature, music, dramas, web series and films.
Speaking about the newly launched platform, the director says: “We are aware and we are not under any illusion that we are going to be bigger than any other platform. We are a very small regional OTT platform.
We can’t compete with these national or international players. But having said that, we are also aware of the fact that our USP is our content.
So, for a regional OTT platform, I believe the biggest strength is regional content. If you want to watch anything in Gujarati, you will have to go to five different platforms.
But here we are offering everything in one language on one platform. So, it is service-oriented rather than competitive. We are marketing it as something that belongs to us.
We have a clear stand that we are not a separate identity. It is our own platform in our own language. That’s why the stories are our people’s stories. And they are going to reach the people.”
The first original content to stream on OHO is Vitthal Teedhi, a 6-episode web series based on a short story of the same name by Mukesh Sojitra.
The story revolves around the titular character Teetedi (played by Pratik Gandhi), which will do anything for his family happiness.
After losing his mother at a young age. To fully support his family, Vitthal begins playing poker, card addiction, gambling to run the family and support his education.
Things begin to decline when his family face several major obstacles without money left to deal with it. The onus is on Vitthal’s moral dilemma… When he tries to save the day at the cost of his conscience.
Season 1 of Vitthal Teedi also stars Ragi Jani, Prashant Barot, Prem Gadhavi, Brindra Trivedi, Jagjeetsinh Vadher, Shraddha Dangar (Special Appearance) and is produced by Nayan Jain, Abhishek Jain, Amit Desai, Suryadeep Basiya, under the banner of CineMan Productions Limited – Abhishek’s own production house.
Abhishek’s conviction has already created a benchmark in the Gujarati Film Industry with his path-breaking debut feature film – Kevi Rite Jaish which settled a milestone as a revival of the Gujarati film industry and ran in cinemas for 112 days.
His second feature film – Bey Yaar went up to become the widest released Gujarati film. It had a theatrical release in more than 14 countries and domestic run-in cinemas for 54 weeks.
Jain’s latest Feature Film – Wrong Side Raju raised the standards and proved to be the first Gujarati film to have a national collaboration with Phantom Films headed by acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap et al.
In the year 2017, CineMan received a National Award for the best feature film in the Gujarati language.
After successfully paving the path into Gujarat’s regional film industry, his company CineMan has now reached new heights. His competent stint has led to a 2 film co-production deal with Maddock films for making Hindi feature-length films.
Abhishek has just completed the shoot of his first Hindi Feature Film tentatively titled Hum Do, Humare Do, which stars Rajkumar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, Ratna Pathak Shah and Aparshakti Khurana.
