Deepika Padukone to Star In & Produce International Romantic Comedy

According to Deadline, Bollywood and international star Deepika Padukone is set to star in a romantic comedy for STXfilms and Temple Hill which she will reportedly produce through her Ka Productions banner.

The media outlet claims that the Temple Hill Productions’ Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are in talks to develop the project, which will be a sweeping cross-cultural story centring around Padukone.

“There is a reason Deepika is one of the biggest global stars to come from India. She is enormously talented with an infectious personality and her profile continues to grow as an international superstar.

While she has been a phenomenal success in many Eros International films, we are thrilled to be building a romantic comedy with her and our friends at Temple Hill.

We believe this project gives us the opportunity to tap into the spirit, voice, characters and vibrant settings of India and New York in ways that made Crazy Rich Asians feel so authentic and fresh,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman, STXfilms Motion Picture Group.

“Ka Productions was founded with the aim to develop and produce purposeful content with global appeal.

I’m thrilled to be partnering with STXfilms and Temple Hill Productions, who share Ka’s ambition and creative vision and look forward to bringing impactful and dynamic cross-cultural stories to the world,” Deadline cites Deepika.

Padukone, who was last seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, her debut production, has a fantastic line-up of films in her kitty and she’s on a roll.

She has an array of projects in the pipeline including Sidharth Anand’s Fighter with Hrithik Roshan, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, Madhu Mantena’s Draupadi, The Intern with Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan-John Abraham starrer Pathan and Shakun Batra’s untitled film with Ananya Panday and Siddhant Chaturvedi.

One of the highest-paid actresses in India, Padukone’s accolades include three Filmfare Awards.

She features in listings of the nation’s most popular personalities, and Time Magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.

Since her debut in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om, Deepika has always undertaken roles in movies like Cocktail, Piku and Padmaavat which are not only strong and synonymous with empowerment, but they all seem to challenge male superiority, misuse of power and hypocrisy.

Having cemented her position as a highly bankable name in commercial cinema, Deepika made her Hollywood acting debut in the 2017 Action film xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, alongside Vin Diesel.

Her credentials also consist of the establishment of the Live Love Laugh Foundation, which creates awareness on mental health in India and she has been vocal about dealing with depression.

Further updates on the romantic comedy to follow.
