Neena Gupta to Join Cast of Amit Sharma’s The Intern?

Amit Sharma’s The Intern already has a rocking cast consisting of Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan.

But now, the excitement has increased with various media reports hinting that Neena Gupta joining the lineup.

A quote in an Indian media outlet cites director Sharma saying:

“Neenaji’s career is now rocking. She is so much in demand that she has to turn down roles. She is definitely a part of my next film The Intern with Amitabh Bachchan ji and Deepika Padukone.”

Amit’s previous film Badhaai Ho was a runaway success, tackling the taboo subject of middle-aged pregnancy, marking a breakthrough performance in Neena Gupta’s career.

Neena ji and Mr Bachchan will be working together in Goodbye. Speaking more about her experience of working with him she tells a media outlet:

“I am very excited to work with Mr Bachchan. I have shot for only five-six days in Bombay, but then the lockdown happened so I had to return home.

I haven’t started my scenes with him yet, but I am very intimidated by him. It’s like when we are waiting for the short, he would be sitting in a corner and I would wonder should I go close to him, talk to him or no.

Should I ask him something or not? It’s actually quite a thing and I think slowly things will be fine for all of us.”

The Badhaai Ho actor also recounts a particular incident when she approached Mr Bachchan. She says:

“One day I thought why can’t I sit with Mr Bachchan, the other actors are sitting with him and talking.

So then I gathered some courage and went and sat next to him but then he got busy on his phone, so I silently sat out there.

The thing is it’s we, who think that Bachchan will be like this or that, but he is a normal person and I am very happy that I will be working with him.”

Interestingly, Padukone and Bachchan were cast as daughter and father in Shoojit Sircar’s 2015 movie Piku.

Apart from sweeping the Filmfare Awards, Piku was also recognized at the National Film Awards.

Amitabh Bachchan won the Best Actor National Award for his portrayal of an aged father in the slice-of-life drama.

The original 2015 Warner Bros movie stars Hathaway as the workaholic CEO of an online fashion website who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a 70-year-old widower who becomes the company’s latest intern.

The original movie grossed $195M (over £140,322 approximately) worldwide, including $119M from offshore.

Last year, the Hindi remake of the Hollywood hit was announced in which Rishi Kapoor was to feature in the role originally played by Robert De Niro.

Deepika has been roped in to play the role originally essayed by Anne Hathaway.

The movie will be helmed by Badhaai Ho director Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Sunir Kheterpal and Deepika Padukone.

The screenplay has been adapted by Akshat Ghildial and Mitesh Shah. Co-producers are Amit Ravindernath Sharma and Gaurav Bose.

The project will be backed by Warner Bros India and Athena.
