Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon makes her digital debut in Netflix with Aranyak, in which she plays Kasturi, a harried local cop who hunts down a serial killer in the Himalayas.
The series ropes in Kahaani‘s Parambrata Chatterjee who helps to solve the solve big-ticket murder case of a teenage tourist. Other supporting cast members include Ashutosh Rana (of Sangharsh fame), Saina‘s Meghna Malik, Indraneil Sengupta (1920) and Zakir Hussain (Sarkar), all of whom are briefly seen in the trailer.
Produced by Roy Kapur Films (The Sky Is Pink) and Ramesh Sippy Entertainment (Bluffmaster!), Rohan Sippy is on board as showrunner with Vinay Waikul as the director.
Speaking about her role and streaming debut, Tandon says: “She has incredible strength. It’s not that she is trying to level herself in a man’s world, but the way she proves herself better than anyone else, that’s what attracted me to the show and the character.”
She adds: “Being associated with the Netflix family is a joy. Even my kids are excited and tell me, ‘Mom you’re going to be on Netflix!’ It’s a cool thing for them. I have enjoyed the experience.”
The release is among a slate of 40 Netflix originals (including Finding Anamika and Dhamaka) which were announced in March to celebrate five years since the company’s launch in India.
In fact, the development in India has resulted in Netflix establishing its first live-action post-production facility in Mumbai. These will function from June 2022 and provide 40 offline editing rooms for showrunners, directors, editors and sound designers.
Aranyak streams on Netflix from December 10.
