The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces shortlists in 10 categories for the 94th Academy Awards, which range from notable documentaries to commemorating technical subjects like sound.
Major titles like Dune and The Harder They Fall have made it to in the ‘Music (Original Scores)’ and ‘Makeup And Hairstyling’ categories. In fact, the latter strand sees other popular Hollywood films like Cruella, House Of Gucci and West Side Story contesting for the trophy.
The newly released The Matrix Resurrections is in the running for ‘Sound’, competing with other hits like Last Night In Soho and Spider-Man: No Way Home, to name a few. Additionally, The Matrix and Spider-Man also go neck-to-neck for ‘Visual Effects’.
Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s Flee, Todd Haynes’s The Velvet Underground Gulistan and Elizabeth Mirzaei’s Three Songs For Benazir compete in the ‘Documentary’ categories of ‘Feature’ and ‘Short Subject’, respectively. Weijia Ma’s Step Into The River runs for ‘Animated Short Film’. Billie Eilish’s titular song of the James Bond film No Time To Die could be in the race to win ‘Music (Original Song)’.
Paolo Sorrentino’s The Hand Of God, Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Lamb and Laura Wandel’s Playground are selected for ‘International Feature Film’ and nominations voting for each category commence on January 27, 2022, concluding on February 1. The 94th Oscars broadcasts on ABC from March 27 next year.
