Badhaai Do, being a spiritual sequel to 2018 National-Award Winner Badhaai Ho, destigmatises another social ‘taboo’. Instead of middle-aged pregnancy in the first film, lavender marriage (the matrimony between a man and woman for the purpose of hiding homosexuality) and LGBTQIA topics are explored here.
Suman Singh (Bhumi Pednekar) is a 31-year-old physical education teacher, who is interested in women. She marries a cop named Shardul Thakur (Rajkummar Rao) to escape the pressure of their families.
Suman and Shardul have arranged to live like ‘roommates’ but chaos ensues when her girlfriend (Chum Darang) comes to stay with them. Things get further complicated when their families begin pressuring them to have a baby. It is then revealed that Shardul too, is gay.
The movie is helmed by Hunterrr‘s Harshavardhan Kulkarni. Zee Studios and Junglee Pictures are on board as producers. Badhaai Do hits cinemas on 11th February.
