EXCLUSIVE: British actress Nisha Aaliya plays an undercover journalist Puja Biswas in London Files by Drishyam‘s Sachin Pathak. This marks her first web-series acting role. Cast alongside Bollywood heartthrob Arjun Rampal as well as Sense8’s Purab Kohli.
The investigative show revolves around Homicide detective Om Singh (Rampal), who pursues a missing person’s case in London. In the process, he battles his own personal demons. Om is forced to investigate the case of media mogul Amar Roy (Kohli), whose daughter goes missing.
Amar is a divisive figure in London due to his support of a draconian anti-immigration bill. As the case gets examined, a darker mystery comes to light, one which threatens to expose Om’s buried past and secrets. It streams from April 21, 2022, on the Indian OTT platform, Voot Select.
London Files is just one of several major projects Nisha has in the pipeline. “I’m excited to explore a new genre in television and film,” she says. “I had started with thrillers and psychological thrillers. Now I’m exploring sci-fi and fantasy dramas.”
Her current and future titles include Kunal Kohli’s Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story. Vardhan Puri and debutant Kaveri Kapur will also feature. She has filmed for season 4 of the American TV show Ghosts. Onboard for a British/European fantasy feature. Just recently completed a Hollywood venture.
Aaliya is also finalised to play Randeep Hooda’s ex-girlfriend in Vivek Singh Chauhan’s Rat On A Highway. She will also be seen in Firrkie alongside Hindi cinema’s celebrated actors Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Kay Kay Menon. Ankush Bhatt directs.
Last year, she played an important role in Netflix’s The Girl On The Train alongside Parineeti Chopra. Nisha, the Indian/Burmese and London-based actor has roots in the performing arts. She played the lead in the musical stage production Bring On The Bollywood by Samir Bhamra. The comedy-dance show played in theatres across London and the UK to critical acclaim.
Her acting credentials further extend to Shakuntala Devi [on Prime Video] by Anu Menon and starring Vidya Balan. Badnaam, directed by Krishna Bhatt, where she stars alongside Mohit Sehgal – a prominent face on Indian Television. Punjabi potboiler, Musafir, which is helmed by Inder Sohi.
Aaliya has even shared screen space with Raqesh Bapat of Bigg Boss in Forever. The picture, which is helmed by Vinay Ram Tiwari, premiered in London’s Cineworld cinemas. She has also worked with former BB winner Gautam Gulati in Operation Cobra. The series streams on Eros Now. Her endorsement credentials include the Syska advert, which sees her alongside the late international icon Irrfan Khan.
