EXCLUSIVE: Bollywood actor Pranutan Bahl will be attending UK Asian Film Festival’s Opening Night Gala at BFI Southbank, London on May 4, 2022. Filme Shilmy learns.
Bahl made her debut in the 2019 romantic-drama Notebook, backed by Salman Khan Films. Her recent work is Helmet, a social-comedy which destigmatises the conversation on safe-sex and condom usage. The film streams on ZEE5 Global. She has a few other projects in the pipeline, though these are yet to be officially confirmed.
Pranutan hails from a prestigious filmy lineage. She is the grand-daughter of a legendary Indian actress Nutan. Daughter of prominent actors Mohnish Bahl and Ekta Sohini. Her aunt, Kajol, is also a famous name in Hindi cinema.
However, the Mumbai-based artist has pursued an independent journey. But despite her familial background, she decided to first pursue a double degree in law. Hence, she became a qualified lawyer. UKAFF marks her first British film festival appearance.
The Opening Night Gala marks the World Premiere of banned Pakistani film, Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story Of A Serial Killer. Lead actors Yasir Hussain and Ayesha Omer are expected to attend. The movie is based on the real-life paedophile and serial killer of the same name. Abu Aleeha directs.
A plethora of actors are due to attend. Shaheen Khan (Bend It Like Beckham), Nisha Aaliya (The Girl On The Train), Himanshi Choudhry (Inside Edge) and Beo Rana Zafar (Cake). Yanick Ghanty, whose Channel 4-series Hullraisers will be screened at the fest. Vishnu Krishnan, lead actor of Singaporean crime-noir Malam, will also premiere.
The Opening Night Gala will additionally see filmmakers like Meenu Gaur (Qaatil Haseenaon Ke Naam) and Dilesh Korya (Bhangra Heads) are expected to also walk the red carpet.
‘Dare To Dream’ follows as this year’s theme. UK Asian Film Festival celebrates its 24th year. Additionally, commemorating 75 years’ independence of India and Pakistan. It concludes on 15th May with the premiere of Bhutanese picture, Gangnam Girls.
