Hina Khan To Attend UKAFF 2022’s Closing Night Gala

EXCLUSIVE: Popular Indian actor Hina Khan is expected to attend the UK Asian Film Festival (UKAFF)’s Closing Night Gala at BFI Southbank, London on May 15, 2022.

Her film Lines by Rahat Kazmi received its British premiere at the festival. With the 1999 Kargil War as a backdrop, it explores how an Indian woman and Pakistani man keep their marriage intact as Kashmir warfare intensifies.

Khan may be walking the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival. At the Riviera, she will be launching a poster of her upcoming Indo-English film, Country of Blind. Rahat Kazmi again helms this movie.

UKAFF closes with the British premiere of the Bhutanese film, Gangnam Girls. Director Charmi Nemchand Chheda and Zangmo Dupka will be joining Anuj Radia for a Q&A. The movie is a drama following four childhood friends as they separate and reunite once more. This will be followed by an awards ceremony, commemorating the festival’s high achievers. Actors Nisha Aaliya and Yanick Ghanty have been roped in as presenters.

Thespian and acclaimed Indian film actor Lillette Dubey (Monsoon Wedding) will be attending. British-Asian actor Shaheen Khan (Bend It Like Beckham) is also expected. Pakistani actor Yasir Hussain (Javed Iqbal) is due to attend.

Talents, whose films are screened at UKAFF, are like to be at the event. These include directors Gurvinder Singh (Adh Chanani Raat), Harv Nagra (Emergence), Abu Aleeha (Javed Iqbal) and Dilesh Korya (Kekee Manzil). Actor Vishnu Krishnan, whose film Malam celebrated its UK premiere at the fest, will be present.

‘Dare To Dream’ follows as this year’s theme. UK Asian Film Festival marks its 24th year. Additionally, it commemorates 75 years of independence of India and Pakistan. The other broader topics explored are human resilience during/after the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of climate change.

The 12-day movie line-up had titles across Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, India, Myanmar, Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Britain and the USA.
