EXCLUSIVE: British-Indian actor Nikkita Chadha is roped in for Sky Original’s Into The Deep, helmed by Kate Cox. She recently made her Hindi web series debut in ZEE5’s Never Kiss Your Best Friend Season 2.
The independent features Jess (Ella-Rae Smith), a young woman who, desperate to escape her small coastal town, meets a stranger promising a romantic escape. As the couple spend time together on his yacht, a change in circumstances results in deceit, mistrust, and violence. Chadha is playing the character Emi. The role is described to be a ‘confident, head-stong girl’ from a small town. She is Jess’ best friend.
Another major title Chadha has bagged is Shekhar Kapur’s What’s Love Got To Do With It? The film is a cross-cultural rom-com across London and Lahore. Nikkita portrays the role of ‘Baby’, one of the cousins from Pakistan. She shares screen space with Emma Thompson and leads a dance number in the picture.
Chadha has been the leading South-Asian face in mainstream media titles including Marvel’s Eternals and Amazon Prime Video’s Cinderella. Recently, she has been a part of Aneil Karia and Riz Ahmed’s The Long Goodbye. The venture picked up an Oscar for ‘Best Short Film’ (Live Action).
“Regarding BAME representation, I believe we’re slowly edging towards a more honest representation of the society we live in and finally showcasing stories by POC (people of colour). It’s exciting to see and I can’t wait to continue my career hopefully being able to play more characters and share more beautiful stories.”
Her further credits include Disney’s Aladdin, Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan and Kenneth Branagh’s Death On The Nile. She has worked on campaigns by major brands like Samsung, Rimmel London and Halifax, to name a few.
