RRR created history by bagging the first Golden Globes for India. Now, the SS Rajamouli film edges toward another international triumph as it gets acknowledged in BAFTA’s longlist. It is in the ‘Film Not In An English’ category with other titles like Denmark’s Holy Spider and South Korea’s Decision To Leave, among others.
A total of 10 films will advance in this category. All BAFTA film voting members were invited to join an opt-in chapter to determine the longlist. This chapter will vote to nominate five films and will vote for the overall winning film. 49 eligible films were submitted for consideration. Gangubai Kathiawadi too was in the race.
Penned and helmed by Rajamouli, RRR (Rise, Roar, Revolt) is a historical fantasy that tells the story of two revolutionaries who fight against British rule in India – superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR play the lead roles.
Among India’s most expensive films, the dazzling action epic has been a huge box-office success – not just locally but also in the US. A Hindi dubbed version of the film on Netflix was among the platform’s Top 10 most-watched titles in the US for weeks when it was released in May 2022.
The nominations for the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2023 will be announced on Thursday 19 January and the ceremony will take place on Sunday 19 February. For the full list, click here.
