Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer The Buckingham Murders will have its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. The thriller marks Khan’s first collaboration with director Hansal Mehta, whose last feature Faraaz also premiered at the festival last year.
Revisiting the role of a cop, Khan plays Jasmeet Bhamra, also a single mother. She is transferred to High Wycombe and is assigned the case of a missing child. The picture is backed by Ektaa Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms and Kareena’s maiden production, Mahana Film. Also starring Keith Allen and Ranveer Brar. It delves into themes like trauma, closure and immigration. Premieres from 14th October 2023.
Shooting for the movie wrapped earlier this year. Khan told an Indian news outlet: “Ektaa and Hansal told me that ‘since you love the script so much, why don’t you come on board as a creative producer as well, and take some calls as to what you think also and give your name to it’ – after much thought, I thought that if I love something so much, and this is a character that I wanted to play, I think it’s fun to do it.”
Karan Tejpal’s Stolen is another Indian title premiering at the festival. Revolves around a story of worlds colliding when two siblings find themselves drawn into the kidnapping of a tribal woman’s baby in a rural town. It stars Abhishek Banerjee (Dream Girl 2) in a notable role. Premieres from 5th October 2023.
Selected in the ‘Competition’ category is Dear Jassi by The Cell filmmaker, Tarseem Singh. Presented in both Punjabi and English languages, tells the true-life story of a young couple who fight against all the odds to be together.
