The best exam-free movies… In my opinion!

There are an innumerable amount of movies, but which are the best? Well, here is a list of some of my favourite stress-free movies to watch, during or after exams:

1. Disney Movies

Regardless of what film or whatever age you are, a Disney film will certainly make you laugh and remind you of the fun elements of life. Also, it can be enjoyed repeatedly. I remember whenever I cried during my childhood, my mother would switch on either, A BUG’S LIFE, MULAN or TOY STORY. Within minutes, respective characters such as: Flick, Mushu and Woody would swipe the tears from my eyes, and instantaneously relax me. In my opinion, without these movies I probably would have forgotten how to laugh and relax the fighting brain cells during revision!

2. The Harry Potter series

Wingardium Laviosa. No I am not chanting a magic spell to pass my exams, but somehow the spell helped me to remember the contents for the exams!
Like many others, the Harry Potter movies were prominently watched throughout my childhood. Viewing the three protagonists: Harry, Ron and Hermione battling the evil Voldemort, motivated me to battle against the exams, but instead of wands, we had pens! Therefore regardless of how intense the exam pressure would be… Harry Potter would save my day (sans the broomsticks!)

3. Devdas

DEVDAS, is a tragic love story of two star-crossed lovers- directed by the great Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Many have found it strange that an emotionally draining tragedy like this is a stress-buster for me. However, hearing the expressive and energetic soundtrack and watching the dramatic performances of the lead actors Shah Rukh Khan-Madhuri Dixit-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is always a pleasure and therefore brings a smile on my face. Regardless of its excessive length and extravagant sets, DEVDAE always gives me a valuable break from the monotonous revision. In fact, I love the film so much, I actually read the novel (Translated into English of course!)

4. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G)

K3G is one of those Bollywood movies that has been watched by hundreds- if not more. The director- Karan Johar, aka KJO, has been recognised as one of the greatest filmmakers in Hindi cinema. Why? The answers are in this movie! Despite having a magnanimous ensemble cast, the movie does not decrease in it’s entertainment quotient. The emotional family drama always pulls my heart-strings, I always hum along to the songs and of course, laugh hysterically at Kajol as Anjali (for the second time after KJO’s Kuch kuch hota hai!)

5. Hum Saath-Saath Hain

During exam period, I often miss the family gatherings and the warmth of the togetherness, due to the immense pressure and stress. At this point, all I normally need is a movie to remind me of the family bliss. Luckily, Hum Saath-saath hai not only does this, but also helps me to remember that after this moment of tension and pressure, there will be happy moments that would be spent with the family! *Sniff Sniff!*
Like Kajol of K3G, Saif Ali Khan and Karisma Kapoor in this film are also a complete delight to watch!

6. Taal

Apparently when I was young, I used to adore Aishwarya Rai Bachchan so much, that I actually copied the yoga steps from this movie! Thus, as I grew up, TAAL became one of my favourite movies to watch. Shiamak Davar’s astonishing choreography, the picturesque mountain sceneries and A.R.Rahman’s award-winning music always calms me down from the ‘anguish’ of exam pressure! Its one of those childhood movies that I always enjoy watching!
