StudioCanal and Working Title Films reveal the first look of What’s Love Got To Do With It? Directed by Elizabeth’s Shekhar Kapur and written by The Clinton Affair’s Jemima Khan. Khan roped in as producer while the sales are handled by StudioCanal.
The picture stars Baby Driver’s Lily James, Penny Dreadful’s Shazad Latif, Emma Thompson (Bridget Jones’ Baby), Mom’s Sajal Aly, Arth’s Shabana Azmi, Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), Informer’s Mim Shaikh, Eternals’ Jeff Mirza, Iman Boujelouah, Mariam Haque (Homeland)and Starstruck’s Sindhu Vee.
British-Asian record producer and musician Naughty Boy (who just participated in I’m A Celebrity) will bring his production and writing skills to the film, he collaborates on new, original, recordings. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has also recorded two songs for the soundtrack and will appear in the film itself.
The movie revolves around documentary filmmaker Zoe (James), for whom swiping right to find Mr Right has only delivered bad dates and funny anecdotes, much to her opinionated mother Cath’s (Thompson) dismay.
For her childhood friend and neighbour Kazim (Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an assisted marriage with a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan.
As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a different approach to finding love.
Geared for a 2022 release, the official date is yet to be announced.
